The Welcome Crew
Apparently Amita and Bink's have turned in our Jetta for something a little wilder. Berkeley colors parked in the front yard. Good to be Home.
Pete Packing it In After Our Last Ride
A good sharp 4 hours on the Alpine Rd. Loop. Only 1 Hour from home now.
Last Day of Riding
Back in the local area of the South Bay. Here, I'm coming up to the top of Alpine "road"

Repairs
My shifter packed it in. Replacing it meant upgrading from 8-speed to 9-speed....which forced an upgrade of the whole drivetrain. Fortunately, we were able to get all this done at a super shop that let us get on the road by 12.30.
Water even in the Desert
Despite all the heat and drought, we found a spring with water running across the road. Cooled our jets here.
How Hot?
We left our ticket for entering Death Valley in the car. The sun was so hot it burned the paper (except where it was covered by the thermometer.
Too Hot
2 liters down on our water after just two hours of riding. No way we can complete a six hour loop. Lesson learned and we are heading back here in 120 degree + heat. Heart rates were pounding even when we were soft pedaling.
Busted By Border Patrol
Or so our host for breakfast suggested when we took his picture. Best morning grub on the trip.

Reading Up
A little research for Pete while on the road, heading south on the eastern side of the high Sierras
Big Wheels
Big wheels everywhere on the Nevada side. This one is about as high as our side view mirror.
Snow Valley Peak
Looking down on Marlette lake, and the divide between this small body of water and the much larger lake Tahoe 1500' below. Plentiful snow at this point, but folks are on the beach down below.
Detour to Snow Valley Peak
A short side jaunt up to 9214' -- possibly our high point for the trip. A grovel up.
